Tips for Thanksgiving Traveling

Traveling - Dick Beard Chevrolet

In just a few weeks, millions of Americans will be flying or driving across the country to spend Thanksgiving with friends and family. If Thanksgiving traveling is in your future, we have a few tips for you.

  • Leave Early.

The Wednesday before Thanksgiving is one of the busiest travel days of the year. If you are driving, try to avoid driving on Wednesday. Or, plan on late night or early morning driving.

  • Make Some Room.

Whether you are driving across town or across the country, you will want as much space as you can get for your Thanksgiving travels. The Chevrolet Traverse can seat up to eight passengers and has plenty of room behind the third row for all your luggage or Thanksgiving food.

  • Stay Entertained.

With the available OnStar® 4G LTE Wi-Fi system in the Traverse, up to seven devices can connect at once. This means everyone can watch their favorite shows or listen to favorite playlists.

  • Be Prepared.

Thanksgiving road trips can be a bit hectic. Mentally prepare for heavy traffic and long driving to avoid any additional stress. Just plan out an awesome road trip playlist to keep you cool, calm, and collected.

To see how the Chevrolet Traverse can make your Thanksgiving traveling even easier, stop by Dick Beard Chevrolet today.

Will You Take The Pan-Mass Challenge?

Will You Take The Pan-Mass Challenge?

At Dick Beard Chevrolet, we love a challenge, especially if it’s a challenge that benefits our community. Take, for instance, the Pan-Mass Challenge, an amazing, organized bike-a-thon that aims to raise money for potentially life-saving cancer research. This year one of our very own employees is participating in the challenge, where their goal was to ride across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

The Pan-Mass Challenge was founded in 1980. Each year, it sends 100% of the funds raised straight to the Jimmy Fund, which collects funds for Boston’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. In the last few decades, the Pan-Mass Challenge has become an increasingly popular fundraiser, and has garnered the support of bicyclists, volunteers, and sponsors from all over the country. The three-day event relies heavily on the time and commitment from a team of thousands of volunteers who man water stops, first-aid stations, and more. The cyclists who ride in the Pan-Mass Challenge will raise anywhere from $600 to $7,800 each—and get pretty fit in doing so, too.

Last year, the Pan-Mass Challenge successfully raised $47 million. We’re excited to watch this fundraiser continue to grow, and happy to support someone who is out there riding to make a difference.

Fuel Efficiency Tips

Gas Pump

Earning the highest fuel economy possible is a goal all drivers should strive to achieve. Check out these money-saving fuel efficiency tips from us here at Dick Beard Chevrolet!

Combine Trips

Making multiple trips in one fell swoop can help save fuel. Running multiple errands at once without returning home in between can result in a significant increase in efficiency. Making a jaunt home in between errands results in wasted fuel and, as a result, wasted money.

Routine Maintenance

Keeping your vehicle in peak operating condition is pertinent to maintaining maximum fuel efficiency. Fresh oil and a tire rotation can go a long way when it comes to engine performance, fuel economy, and ride comfort. Other maintenance items, such as a tune up, can help increase fuel economy as well.

Spending a little time and money on routine maintenance could pay off at the pump.

Slow Down

Everyone is in such a hurry these days that fuel efficiency tends to take the majority of the blow. Driving at high speeds results in a significant decrease in your vehicle’s fuel economy. While going 60 mph in a 55-mph area might not seem bad, consider that it could actually reduce fuel economy by nearly 10 percent!

That’s a pretty significant portion. Imagine paying 10 percent more per gallon of gas and decide whether getting to your destination a few minutes sooner is worth the cost.

Chevrolet Equinox Engine Options Get Updates for 2018

The 2018 Chevrolet Equinox arrives completely redesigned this year. With an all-new design, the Chevrolet Equinox engine options also get updated. In fact, the new Equinox gives buyers a choice from among three turbocharged engines.

“With three choices, customers can select an engine that offers more of the attributes that are important to them: efficiency, performance and capability,” said Dan Nicholson, vice-president, Global Propulsion Systems. “The advantage for each is power of a larger engine and the fuel economy of a smaller engine.”

The base engine is a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine that generates 170 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque. It delivers an EPA-estimated 32 mpg highway*.

Next is an available turbocharged 2.0-liter that delivers more performance at 252 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. This engine is the ideal choice for drivers who plan to do any towing and offers up to 3,500 pounds of towing capacity, when properly equipped. It also offers an EPA-estimated 29 mpg highway*.

Finally, for drivers who want to maximize efficiency, the 1.6-liter turbo-diesel is a first for this segment. It is rated at 137 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque. This engine has not been officially tested by the EPA yet; however, GM estimates that is should return about 40 mpg on the highway. This engine will not be available until later in the model year.

Come experience the redesigned 2018 Chevrolet Equinox at Dick Beard Chevrolet.

*EPA estimates only. Actual mileage may vary.

Towing Safety Tips

If you drive a Chevrolet Silverado or any other truck, you likely bought it because you wanted to tow something. Whether you consider yourself an expert or are just starting out, here are a few towing safety tips.

  • Leave more stopping room. Thanks to the trailer and anything in it, your truck now weighs a lot more. This means it will take longer for you to stop. Leave more stopping distance and start braking earlier.
  • Take wider turns. With a trailer in tow, you will not be able to take sharp turns, or your trailer will wind up hitting the curb or even falling over. Start every turn wider than you would with just your truck to compensate.
  • Inspect your trailer. Thoroughly inspect your trailer after hitching it up to ensure everything is properly secured and balanced. Make sure all lights are in working order. Check everything again after driving for 1, 10, and 100 miles.
  • Make it parallel. Both your truck and trailer should be nearly parallel to the ground when hitched. Do not overload your hitch. The tongue-weight should be about 10% of the total trailer weight.

The Chevrolet Colorado ZH2 Concept: Military Hydrogen Pickup

The new Chevrolet Colorado ZH2 Concept is a military vehicle in the making. This durable pickup is an experiment in true versatility, a revamped version of the already impressive Colorado. Believe it or not, this model is a fuel-cell vehicle designed to work in brutal conditions, a hydrogen-powered pickup that’s getting attention from engineers around the world.

Your first question might be, is it safe to have a military vehicle run on hydrogen? This was something the editors at Car and Driver couldn’t wrap their heads around at first until they talked to the executives at GM. Essentially, “fifties bounce off the [hydrogen] tanks,” said Charlie Freese, director of fuel-cell activities. Freese is referring to .50 caliber bullets, by the way, which means the new Colorado ZH2 isn’t your ordinary pickup.

The ZH2 was developed in conjunction with TARDEC, the US Army’s Tank Auto Research, Development, and Engineering Center. Hydrogen is incredibly abundant, one reason the Army was interested in developing a military truck that could run without using gas. Additionally, the pickup has incredible off-road capabilities, a camo exterior, and a reinforced frame. Perhaps best of all, the ZH2 is completely quiet, making it a perfect stealth vehicle.

Whether or not Chevy will release a production version of the new ZH2 is unknown. At Dick Beard Chevrolet, we think the new Colorado is evidence of what’s to come out of Chevy’s lineup in the near future.

Traditions Manifest Through the Cape Cod St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Now Just Around the Corner

Cape Cod St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Spring is on the horizon, and you know what that means: St. Patrick’s Day is almost upon us. This popular holiday brings with it many symbols, traditions, and celebrations that make it one of the most anticipated days of the year.

Most immediately think of the shamrock, which has become the symbol for St. Patrick’s Day over time. Long ago, the shamrock was considered to be a sacred plant in Ireland, symbolizing the rebirth of spring. Today, it’s a sure sign of Irish heritage and pride.

Another sure sign of St. Patrick’s Day is the emergence of Celtic music, wherever you go. From classic, older tunes to music from modern artists, you are sure to hear the fiddle, the tin whistle, and the uilleann pipes – not to be confused with bagpipes.

Of course, here in Cape Cod, the onset of St. Patrick’s Day brings with it one of the top town spectacles of the year: the Cape Cod St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

The parade will start in West Yarmouth – about 15 minutes away from our dealership – and will end nearby us here at Dick Beard Chevrolet. For more information on the specific path of the parade, which is about two miles long, you can check out the Cape Cod St. Patrick’s Day Parade website, here.

And once the parade is over, consider visiting us to explore the enormous selection of vehicles we have at Dick Beard Chevrolet!

Chevrolet Brings Full-Size LEGO Batmobile to Detroit

LEGO Batmobile | Hyannis, MAUsually, the annual auto show in Detroit is reserved for serious offerings. Most auto makers use it to show off next-generation models or announce upcoming changes to their companies. However, Chevrolet knows how to keep things lighthearted and fun. Working in tandem with the upcoming LEGO Batman movie, Chevrolet brought a full-size LEGO Batmobile to the North American International Auto Show just for the sake of fostering a sense of imagination among the Detroit revelations.

The Batmobile was the result of a partnership between Chevrolet and FIRST LEGO League, A World in Motion, and even students from the Cody Rouge community in Detroit. Chevy sought to bring a sense of family and community to the project in order to strengthen bonds between the company, the people of Detroit, and other businesses, and building a LEGO Batmobile with them was just the kind of family-friendly project to keep everyone happy and excited. What’s more is that the 17-foot-long vehicle actually drives and offers features like Apple CarPlay and hands-free calling!

The full-size LEGO Batmobile will also be getting its own commercial spot in Chevy’s “Real People, Not Actors” ad campaign, featuring LEGO minifigures who talk about what kind of person would drive the Batmobile. We all wish that we could go buy one of these for ourselves, even if there was some assembly required.
